1. Leaking! Check your water meter first!
- Turn off all the faucets.
- Open the water meter cover, check the red cross indicator. It should stand still when everything is fine. If the indicator is turning, there must be leaking somewhere.
- Then check the water heater. Shut off the supply tube of the heater. If the indicator in the water meter is turning, then the heating system is leaking.
- If the indicator is still turning, you have to check all faucets, toilets, and washing machine.
- When there is leaking somewhere in the building that you can not check by yourself, seek help from a plumber. Remember to turn off the valve in front of the water meter before the plumber comes.
Note :
+ Washers, float balls, and flappers are available at a plumber’s.
+ The supply tubes under sinks and bathtubs are the most likely places of leaking.
2. Calculating water consumption from meter reading
Direct reading type of water meter
69 = 1998 - 1929
You can see 4 circles on the dial of a water meter. On the left-hand slot of the water meter, every circle the indicator runs means one liter of water. On the right-hand side. Every circle the indicator runs is one cubic meter of water. When all the facilities are shut off, but still the red indicator is running, it means that there is leaking somewhere you have to repair. When personnel of Taipei Water Department take down water meter reading, they merely write down the numeral figure on it. If you have any questions, please contact our Meter Reading Section in district business office.
