Taipei Water Department’s Taipei Water Park has earned the highest "Excellence" recognition in the 2024 Ministry of Environment's evaluation of environmental education facilities and venues. The award acknowledges the Park's creative curriculum planning and diverse themes tailored for different age groups. Deputy Commissioner Shun-li Chang led the team to receive this prestigious honor on November 5th. The Taipei Water Department has long been dedicated to promoting water resource and environmental education and will continue to enhance its efforts, encouraging more people to appreciate “Taipei’s Excellent Water” and integrate water conservation and respect into their daily lives.
According to the Taipei Water Department, Taipei Water Park’s recognition stems from its customized environmental education programs designed to cater to different age groups. For younger children, including kindergarteners and lower elementary students, the “Burton Theater” offers engaging performances, hands-on activities, and guided tours to introduce the origins of Taipei’s water supply and key elements of water engineering, emphasizing the preciousness of clean water. For mid and upper-level elementary and junior high school students, the “Pipes Connected to My Home” program offers on-site explanations of the water purification process, hands-on coagulation experiments, and team-based pipe network construction to help participants appreciate the significance of the water distribution system. For organizations and adult groups, the “Taipei Water Source Tour (Expert Guided Tour)” provides in-depth tours of the Museum of Drinking Water and Gongguan Water Purification Plant, fostering a more profound understanding of the value of water resources.
The Taipei Water Department added that, in an effort to integrate environmental education resources and expand participation, they have collaborated this year with the Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration and the Sewerage Systems Office of the Taipei City Government to host the “Taipei Water Journey” environmental education program. This initiative targets mid to upper-level elementary school students in Taipei, offering engaging educational experiences through courses at the Taipei Water Park, Feitsui Reservoir Environmental Learning Center, and Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of the full cycle of Taipei’s water system, from water sources, purification, and supply to sewage treatment and reuse. Schools and organizations are welcome to participate in environmental education courses and the “Taipei Water Journey” related activities (for more information, please visit the Taipei Water Park Environmental Education Center website: https://twpeec.water.gov.taipei/).
