Non-Stop Music in Gongguan this September! Trendy Taipei, Open Culture Festival and ChillOut Festival Set to Rock the City!

As summer winds down and schools of all levels begin their new academic year, Taipei’s Gongguan district is cranking up the volume with a series of non-stop weekend music festivals! Kicking off in September, Trendy Taipei, Open Culture Festival, and the ChillOut Festival are all set to light up Gongguan’s riverside plaza. Featuring Golden Melody Award-winning producer Lim Giong, hip-hop stars Soft Lipa and Leo Wang, these performances will provide the perfect musical escape from the city's fast-paced lifestyle.

According to the Taipei Water Department, to align with the Taipei City Government's first-ever Trendy Taipei – Music X Innovation showcase, they’ll be hosting a special event on September 8 at the historic PIPE Live Music space (Raw Water Pumping Station). The event will bring together two post-rock bands: Hong Kong’s Prune Deer and Taiwan’s Aphasia, using music to shine a light on cultural and social issues.

The inaugural Open Culture Festival, organized by the Open Culture Foundation, will also take place in September. This non-profit organization is dedicated to creating a more transparent and open digital and online environment in Taiwan, with a focus on protecting digital human rights. On September 14, Gongguan Riverside Plaza will host a star-studded lineup of renowned musicians and tech experts, exploring the limitless possibilities of future technology and creativity. Famed artist Lim Giong will join forces with Italian artist Luca Bonaccorsi for the very first time to perform their brand-new album BIOEROSION, which is centered around the core concepts of "openness" and "sharing." The album showcases an innovative fusion of music and visual arts, pushing the boundaries of both fields. In addition to the music and visual performances on the same day, there will be cross-industry tech discussions, a special exhibition on the open-source movement in Taiwan, and activities like the Open Culture General Store and Comma Market.

On September 28 and 29, the 2024 ChillOut Music Festival is set to expand like never before with nine stages—six major and three minor—featuring over 100 acts from Taiwan and around the world. Hip-hop star Soft Lipa, winner of the 2021 Golden Melody Award for Best Mandarin Male Singer and Best Mandarin Album, will make his festival debut at ChillOut. He will be joined by Leo Wang, the first hip-hop artist to win the Golden Melody Award for Best Male Singer. Leo Wang, who first performed at ChillOut in 2018 before winning his award the following year, returns to the stage for a special collaboration with Daxien the Illusionist for an exciting new show. The international lineup also includes artists such as Japan’s Omoiide Yaro A Team, returning to Taiwan after a five-year hiatus, Amaiwana and Your Song Is Good, along with DJ Krush, hailed as one of Japan’s hip-hop pioneers. Also performing are Thailand’s Alec Orachi, South Korea’s Yangbans and Hong Kong bands Wantamnam and XSGACHA.

This year’s ChillOut Music Festival will introduce two new nighttime stages. The Autumn Chrysanthemum night stage will feature famous anime music group Otakuni, performing from late night until dawn. The Autumn Night stage, making its debut this year, will bring together top DJs from Taiwan and Japan to keep the crowd buzzing all night long. Notable performers include Djwaterdamage (@chinbanteigoraku) from Japan, making their first appearance in Taiwan, Spykee, known for blending diverse music genres with rich party experience and Saito "JxJx" Jun, the soul behind Your Song Is Good, who will deliver smooth electronic grooves to keep the night flowing.
