Known as the cradle of Taiwan’s pop music culture, southern Taipei is rich with music venues, bookstores, cafes and cozy bars, all brimming with creative energy. This September 28 and 29, the 2024 ChillOut Festival is set to make waves, featuring an expanded lineup of 100 artists from Taiwan and abroad across six major stages and three smaller ones. Spanning the vibrant Gongguan shopping area, Taipei Water Park, Gongguan Waterfront Plaza and Guting Riverside Park, this festival blends international music with local charm, offering a dynamic mix of beats, history, shopping, and natural beauty.

According to the Taipei Water Department, Gongguan is more than just a university hub with top schools like NTU, NTNU and NTUST—it’s also a historic water source for the city. The Guanyinshan Reservoir, a century-old historic monument, and the repurposed city-designated monument Raw Water Pumping Station, now a music venue, tells tales of the area’s rich history. Over the past decade, Gongguan has naturally evolved into a hotspot for young music lovers. The ChillOut Festival, a local initiative for the past four years, has become a signature event. This year, in a bid to revitalize the Gongguan shopping district, the Taipei Water Department, along with the Hydraulic Engineering Office, Department of Economic Development, EasyCard Corporation, local businesses, music performing venue operators have teamed up to expand the festival. The government is backing three large, free stages, while private organizers will host three ticketed stages and three smaller, free stages. With chill vibes and acts from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong, this festival is shaping up to be a top-tier, high-quality event that’s distinctly Taipei.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the ChillOut Festival is Taipei’s only urban music festival where you can lounge around and soak in the sounds. With the main feature being its relaxed vibe, each of the nine stages offers something different. The Autumn Moon and Autumn Chrysanthemum stages at Gongguan Waterfront Plaza will continue their tradition of chill music, featuring a smooth mix of soul, R&B, jazz and city pop. Meanwhile, the late-night indoor venue will transform the place into a Japanese anime-themed party, taking you from afternoon fun to midnight magic. New additions this year include the Autumn Water stage at Taipei Water Park, which will pump up the hip-hop beats; the Autumn Walk stage in Gongguan’s shopping area, perfect for lovers of romantic pop; and the Autumn Fragrance stage at Guting Riverside, where music and floral scents will create a fresh, vibrant atmosphere. There’s also the newly opened Autumn Night stage, where you can enjoy a stunning sunset followed by starlit skies, all while grooving to smooth and rhythmic EDM beats. This year's ChillOut Festival will feature the winning teams from the Endless Flow 2024 Cypher Tournament, with talented groups from 12 schools including National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Tsing Hua University, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Chihlee University of Technology, Yuan Ze University, Minglun High School, National Yilan Senior High School, and National Kaohsiung Municipal Senior High School making their debut on the festival stage, showcasing their creative talents.

The Taipei Water Department emphasized that while the ChillOut Festival is designed to attract a young crowd, they are also aiming to expand its appeal to families. On both event days (September 28 and 29), the Taipei Water Park will offer free admissions, along with four additional heritage tours. The Guting Riverside Park, known for its springtime flower sea, will feature a special autumn display of orange cockscomb flowers, adding a splash of color to the season. In addition, EasyCard Corporation is offering a 20% cashback promotion for purchases made using the EasyWallet during the two-day event, expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees to this unique blend of culture, commerce, music and leisure in Taipei’s Gongguan area.
