Ensuring Safe Water For the Public During Typhoons! Taipei Water Department Activates Feitsui Raw Water Supply Tunnel in Response to Typhoon Gaemi

As Typhoon Gaemi, the third typhoon of the year, fast approaches Taiwan, the Taipei Water Department has completed the preparatory work for switching to the Feitsui raw water supply tunnel system this morning (23rd). It is expected to start utilizing raw water from the Feitsui Reservoir this afternoon, ensuring stable water quality and quantity during the typhoon.

The Taipei Water Department has noted that the recent shifts in climate have led to increased water turbidity during typhoons and heavy rains, presenting a recurring challenge. To counter these effects and enhance the resilience of water supplies against extreme weather, the Feitsui raw water supply tunnel project was completed and became operational on June 20th. A successful operational test was conducted on the 11th of this month in collaboration with the Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, verifying the system's reliability. In anticipation of Typhoon Gaemi, the Feitsui raw water supply tunnel will be utilized according to the issued weather warnings, ensuring a consistent flow of quality water from the Feitsui Reservoir.

The Taipei Water Department remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of water quality for Taipei. Supported by a Ministry of the Environment-certified laboratory and 95 water quality monitoring stations, the Department will uphold stringent 24-hour surveillance of water quality throughout the typhoon period to guarantee end-to-end water safety and quality.
