Mutual Support between Taipei and New Taipei: Taipei Water Department Extends Full Support to Emergency Response at Sanchong Construction Site
On February 26th, a private construction site in Sanchong District, New Taipei City, experienced a water seepage incident causing damage to the diaphragm walls. Upon notification from the New Taipei City Emergency Operations Center, the Taipei Water Department swiftly responded, arriving at the scene within 30 minutes and opening fire hydrants to meet the urgent need for water supply. Additionally, water trucks were dispatched to the site to facilitate the emergency response operations and accelerate the water-filling process, aiming to balance the internal and external pressure of the construction site's diaphragm wall and stabilize the surrounding buildings, thus preventing further escalation of the incident and damage to adjacent buildings. According to the Taipei Water Department, in response to the significant water demand for on-site emergency relief, besides opening two fire hydrants on-site and providing support with two water trucks, the water pressure in the Sanchong area was increased on the evening of the 27th to expedite the water-filling operations, which were completed in the early hours of the 28th.Furthermore, the Taipei Water Department assisted in conducting inspections of user water meters for buildings surrounding the construction site to assess the condition of internal pipelines. Staff were also continuously stationed and rotated on-site to provide essential assistance as needed. The Taipei Water Department noted that in this incident, Taipei and New Taipei City exemplified close collaboration, following the directives of the New Taipei City Emergency Operations Center to engage in disaster relief efforts and minimize the impact of the disaster.
