In celebration of the 2025 Taipei New Year’s Party, the Taipei Water Department has unveiled its latest innovation, the Azalea Direct Drinking Fountain, at the greenbelt in front of Breeze Nanshan, near Taipei 101. This latest drinking fountain invites all attendees to enjoy pure and refreshing Taipei water while embracing sustainability through energy conservation and plastic reduction.

The Taipei Water Department has long been committed to delivering high-quality, reliable water to Taipei residents. To enhance convenience, drinking fountains are installed in various public areas, including shopping districts, parks, venues, and hiking trail entrances. In addition to these fixed fountains, the Taipei Water Department has also developed mobile drinking fountains, which can be deployed flexibly at major city events, allowing the public to experience the excellence of Taipei’s water quality.

The Taipei Water Department explained that the design of the Azalea Direct Drinking Fountain draws inspiration from Taipei’s city flower, the azalea, symbolizing the city’s beauty, prosperity, and happiness. Water, the source of life, nourishes the bloom of this symbolic flower. By drinking from the fountain, users not only quench their thirst and refresh their spirits but also symbolically “water” the flower, embodying the cycle of vitality and growth.

The Azalea Direct Drinking Fountain incorporates a universal design, featuring spouts at various heights to ensure easy access for adults, children, and individuals with disabilities. This thoughtful design creates an inclusive and environmentally friendly space that reflects Taipei’s unique charm. The interactive screen on the fountain’s column provides environmental education and water quality information, enhancing user awareness. The vibrant LED petals and stamens add a playful touch, allowing users to engage with the fountain like bees gathering nectar, making the experience both educational and entertaining. Solar panels are seamlessly embedded within the petals, integrating green energy, carbon reduction, and sustainability principles. This design not only promotes eco-conscious practices but also highlights Taipei’s commitment to energy efficiency and reducing plastic waste, aligning with its vision for a greener, more sustainable future. The central circular lighting decoration adapts to various events by projecting iconic patterns. For this occasion, the Azalea Direct Drinking Fountain’s projection light displays the vibrant 2025 Taipei New Year’s Party design. The sparkling lights, paired with the festive New Year’s atmosphere, exude a lively and joyous vibe, enhancing the cityscape with an elegant touch of design.
